Fitchett Proll Dance Story

Fitchett Proll Dance School was established in 1936 by Margaret Sandham. In 1958, Heather Fitchett—having completed her training at the prestigious Royal Ballet School—became a partner alongside her former teacher, Miss Sandham. The two worked closely together until Margaret Sandham’s passing in 1988.

Heather Fitchett was later invited to become an examiner for the British Ballet Organisation, examining extensively across the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. She remained a guiding force at the school for many decades. Following her passing in 2023, the school continues under the direction of her daughter, Martine Proll, and is going from strength to strength.

Now a proud third-generation school, Miss Proll’s daughter, Miss Melissa, also teaches at Fitchett Proll, carrying forward the legacy of excellence in dance education.

Our students have the opportunity to perform in school productions,  as well as in professional performances, including pantomimes & Christmas shows.. Examinations are offered in Classical Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Modern Jazz, Musical Theatre, Street Dance, Contemporary Dance, Classical Acrobatic Dance, and Modelling, through the nationally recognised British Theatre Dance Association.

We regularly invite guest teachers of national and international reputation to inspire and coach our students.

Former pupils have performed with ballet companies, in West End productions, on cruise liners, in pantomimes, and on television.

The highest standards of self-discipline are expected from all pupils, while individual expression and a love of dance are encouraged at every level—from our youngest dancers to adults and those pursuing a professional career.

As a special welcome, our beginner pupils receive a storybook introducing them to the world of Fitchett Proll—a warm and inspiring start to their dance journey.
